Major Renovation: 1897, Lowered first floor to street
level, lowered second floor and created attic space. New faade
with bay windows, Chicago-style windows. Created office spaces including
dental office on second floor.
History: Originally owned and renovated by Caleb
Snashall, founding president of Baker Manufacturing. Snashall also
founded other Evansville manufacturing businesses including unsuccessful
match and tack factories. He was a gifted architect. He designed
the facades of several downtown buildings and the Baptist Church
at First and Church Streets. In addition, he was the CityÍs first
Building Inspector and proud of his building practices.
